A little about me
Hello! I'm Mike. I've been living in Tokyo for 5 years, working as a cook serving the sprawl by day, data courier at night.Get to know me here as I share passions, hobbies, and glimpses of my Night City.
What Do you do?
For the past 5 years I've been a cook in Tokyo. Now, I am venturing back into IT, specifically in Cybersecurity, Networking Administration.
What Did you do?
I worked in the U.S. Aviation Industry doing Quality Control & Inspection. I also spent some time in healthcare as a Radiology Tech Assistant, and briefly worked remotely in Telecommunications.
Healthcare? IT? Aviation? Culinary..?
I've tried many paths, but Networking and Security remain my passion. Working different jobs paid the bills and opened doors to unique experiences.
What's your lifestyle?
Currently, I feel BLESSED. Married to an amazing woman, living in one of the coolest cities, and diving deep into Japan's culinary scene. I've learned a lot, and I'm just getting started.
My career drive is back, fueled by my friend Hedi pushing me to learn web design and utilize more code in Networking and Security (like Python).
Interests
I enjoy coffee☕ while working on my Homelab. I have a quaint collection of SONY consoles and games. I have been on and off writing my own (Post)Cyberpunk novel 📖. I used to enjoy driving, and riding motorcycles. Of course Rooftop BBQs with my wife and friends are a must.
SONY
Sony was my first brand—TV, tapes, MDs, CDs, PlayStation. They introduced me to Japan. My favorite: PSP and PS Vita. I enjoy collecting and repairing them. I've sold most, but I'll share some photos on here soon.
Thank you Sony
CYBERPUNK
Cyberpunk has always been asteticly pleasing to me, and is a big part of my life. Arriving in Japan showed me where much of the inspiration comes from. To me, it's simple, rough, but charming.
My dad made me his movie buddy every weekend—movies like Terminator 2, Total Recall, Blade Runner, Johnny Mnemonic shaped my love for dystopian futures, tech, and 80s–90s vibes.
Here is a personal favorite. Both shot and edited by me.
Computers & Tech
I absolutely love electronics, both new and retro tech. It's amazing to see where things have come and gone. My daily driver is a 16-inch NBook Ultra stuffed with an AMD Ryzen™ 7 8845HS CPU and 64GB memory. I use it as my main workstation at home and on the go.
I also have a few other mobile computers, including a MacBook Pro (Intel chip w/ Bootcamp Parrot OS), 2013 Alienware 14 (Kali), and a Surface Pro 6 (Windows).
Daily, I use Linux, but I'm familiar with Debian. Across my systems, I have Kali, Parrot, and Ubuntu. I prefer debıan based systems, as you can see.
More of my stack can be seen here on my more technical site.
